The Popular Soccer Formations

By Soccer-Drill-s.Com

Soccer formation is a form of unity of a few players who occupy their respective position. Some soccer formations are 4-4-2, 4-3-3, 4-3-1-2, 4-2-3-1, 4-4-1-1, 4-2-4, 3-4 -3, 3-4-1-2, and much more.

However, the soccer formations I would like to discuss here are soccer formations which widely used today.

4-4-2 Soccer Formation

I can say that 4-4-2 is a standard soccer formation. It consists of 4 defenders, 4 midfielders, and 2 strikers. 2 full-backs (right and left) are usually active in attacking through the wings. This formation relies on the attack through the side field; this formation must have great wingers who have an accurate crossing ability. This is the traditional formation of many England clubs and the England National Team itself. 4-4-2 can be transformed into 4-4-1-1.

4-3-3 Soccer Formation

This is a popular formation at the moment. Many big European clubs use this system such as Barcelona, Inter Milan, Chelsea when trained by Maurinho, and most of the clubs in the Dutch soccer. And indeed this formation has been popularized by the Dutch with their philosophy of Total Football; soccer game with full attack, with the philosophy that attack is the main defense. This formation consists of 4 defenders with 2 full-backs who are active in conducting the attack, 3 midfielders that is 1 defensive/center midfielder and 2 attacking midfielder and 3 players in front with 2 wingers and 1 striker. 2 AM and 2 WG are the very active when attack with the assistance of 2 full-back from the rear.

4-2-3-1 Soccer Formation

This formation is widely used by many clubs in Spain. By stacking players in the middle, hopefully it can control this area. By controlling this area, it will usually have a lot of ball possession and a chance to attack a lot. 2 full-backs will help the attack.

4-3-1-2 Soccer Formation

This formation is widely used by many clubs in Italy. It consists of 4 defenders, 3 midfielders, 1playmaker, and 2 strikers. The playmaker will be a central player or an attack creator and it also could be a second striker or the hole attacker that will come suddenly. The teams that use this formation are AS Roma with Totti as a playmaker, AC Milan while Sevchenko still playing there with Kaka as a playmaker.

Other soccer formations are not popular now, like 4-2-4 formation that had been used by Brazil in the several decades and soccer formations with 3 defenders such as 3-4-3, 3-4-1-2 formation had become obsolete in modern soccer.
