Arsenal Stadium – Highbury and the Emirates

By Soccer-Drill-s.Com

Formerly, Arsenal stadium at Highbury Stadium, North London, Highbury became home ground of Arsenal Football Club from 6 September 1913 until May 7 2006. Club dubbed as “The Home of Football”.

This stadium was built in 1913 on the ground of local universities recreation site and have been renovated twice. First in the 1930s, from which Art Deco West and East stands on, and the second in the late 1980s and early 1990s following the Taylor Report, made all-seater with four stands, removing the porch at either end of the field. Making capacity reduction results from Matchday revenues declined, and eventually make them choose to make the new Arsenal stadium, the Emirates Stadium nearby, which makes the brand moved in 2006. How about Highbury? This place will be built into the apartment complex.

Arsenal actually started not comfortable with Highbury stadium during the late 1990s because of its small size and capacity of 38,419 is too little. When it became all-seater in 1993, making the stadium with a capacity of at least among the stadiums owned clubs other Premier League.

Emirates Stadium is also often referred to as The Emirates or Ashburton Grove, this Arsenal stadium is located in Holloway in the London Borough of Islington. In July 2006 the new stadium has opened and has a seating capacity of 60,432, with a capacity of as much as it makes it the fifth largest stadium in the United Kingdom. After Wembley and Twickenham, the Emirates is the third largest stadium of any kind in London. This stadium is called the Ashburton Grove because it lies on that road. After the October 2004, with the naming rights agreement with the airline Emirates, Arsenal stadium was named with The Emirates Stadium. The project is to cost as much as £ 430 million.

After considering a variety of things, ultimately determine where the club is in an industry area in Ashburton Grove, which is only 500 meters from the old Arsenal stadium, Highbury. In November 1999 the plan was announced, which was planned to be opened in August 2003, because the planning and financial difficulties eventually pushed back to summer 2006. Ashburton Grove is a densely populated area. The most significant is Islington Council a recycling plant and Holloway Royal Mail Delivery Office. This makes Arsenal pay their relocation costs. Arsenal bought 10 acres (40,000 m²) of land used in railway Lough Road, off Caledonian Road, to house the new recycling plant, while the Royal Mail moved to Hamilton Park, this proved very expensive Arsenal stadium.
